Did your dear partner surprise you with an engagement ring? And you say yes. But now are you wondering about adding another ring once you get married? Well what is the difference between an engagement ring and a wedding ring? Perhaps you love your engagement ring to that extent then the point of wearing another ring doubts you or can simply continue wearing your love’s engagement ring solo or along with the wedding ring. Well this blog answers your questions and explains the engagement versus wedding rings etiquette to the fullest extent.

Engagement Vs Wedding Rings:

Traditionally engagement rings have one dominant stone which either stands alone or is surrounded by additional small stones or gems. These rings are just given as a part of the proposal or on the early part of an engagement. Engagement rings can be any type and need not have any diamonds or gemstones and solely based on the liking of your partner.

Wedding rings on the contrary are exchanged during the vows and are made of a band of a plain metal or diamond entrusted one which can be worn for eternity. Wedding rings are smaller in size compared to the former one and also lesser in its carat weight. Usually wedding rings don’t feature huge diamonds or gemstones at their center. But now the tradition has changed and brides have more options than before. The pricing also differs between wedding and engagement rings based on the style chosen.

How do I Wear Engagement and Wedding Rings?

As per traditions both engagement and wedding rings are worn on the fourth finger of your left hand. To dive deeper as per tradition, it says that you wear your wedding band rather than the engagement ring as its much closer to your heart.

But now some brides opt to wear an engagement ring on one hand and a wedding ring on the other hand, especially if both these rings are diverse and can be stacked.

Do I Really Need Both?

To be honest, it depends on the personal choice of the bride. If your going as per traditions then of course yes its the wedding ring and it can be anything like adding an eternity band with diamonds or just a plain band. A wedding ring and engagement ring looks more good but now people are going for simpler ones rather than a ring having two or three bands stacked together.

It is perfectly fine to just wear one ring to symbolize both your engagement and your married (future) status. But here is why some brides opt to wear just one ring:

§   Single rings are more comfy and less fussy compared to both engagement and wedding ring combined

§   The worry factor gets reduced as your wearing one ring and can be more focussed rather than the fear of losing another

§   You don’t worry about the perfect matching as it is sometimes difficult to find the wedding band that suits your engagement ring.

§   Finally the funds for both as one single standout ring can help out to cut some dollars in expense if needed.

On the contrary there is nothing wrong in wearing/choosing both engagement and wedding rings. You can wear one, two or three and just make sure that the rings worn by you symbolize your love and marriage for the years to come.
